Malaysia packs an astonishing amount into one easy country — gleaming city towers, cool tea-covered highlands, UNESCO heritage streets and some of Asia's best islands. It's famously halal-friendly and multicultural, so the food alone is worth the trip. English is widely spoken and getting around is simple, making it a superb first international holiday. Here are the experiences we build most Malaysia trips around.

See the cities

Start in Kuala Lumpur for the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, Batu Caves and buzzing Bukit Bintang. Add Malacca for its red Dutch Square, Jonker Street and river cruise, or George Town in Penang for street art and heritage. Each city has its own distinct character and food scene.

Head for the highlands

When the city heat builds, escape uphill. Genting Highlands offers theme parks and one of the world's longest cable cars, while Cameron Highlands is all tea plantations, strawberry farms and crisp cool air. Both are easy add-ons to a KL trip.

Islands & beaches

Langkawi is the all-rounder, with the Sky Bridge, Eagle Square, beaches and duty-free shopping. For snorkelling and clear water, the east-coast islands of Redang, Perhentian and Tioman shine from March to October. Borneo's Sipadan offers world-class diving.

Eat your way around

Malaysia's Malay, Chinese and Indian roots make it a food-lover's dream. Expect nasi lemak, char kway teow, satay, roti canai and endless hawker stalls — Penang in particular is legendary. It's easy to eat superbly on any budget.

Good to know

Indians travel on an eNTRI or e-Visa (about 2 to 4 working days; we assist). KL is reached by direct flights of around 4.5 to 5.5 hours. Dress modestly at mosques and temples, and use efficient trains or Grab to get around.

Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
