Water adventures

The Andamans are built for the water. Scuba diving and snorkelling reveal reefs teeming with fish, while sea walking, glass-bottom boats, jet-skis and game fishing add variety. Havelock is the hub for most activities, with certified operators for every level.

Beaches worth the trip

Radhanagar on Havelock regularly ranks among Asia's best beaches, while Kalapathar and Neil's Laxmanpur are quieter alternatives. Each has its own mood, from lively snorkelling coves to serene sunset strips.

History and culture

Port Blair's Cellular Jail is a poignant reminder of the freedom struggle, and its evening show is unmissable. Nearby Ross Island (Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep) and the marine museums round out the story of these islands.

Beyond the usual

For something different, explore Baratang's limestone caves and mud volcano, or head north to Diglipur for the Ross and Smith twin islands and turtle nesting. These add real depth to a longer trip.

When to visit

October to May offers calm seas and clear visibility for diving; December and January are peak. The June-September monsoon can bring rough water and occasional ferry cancellations.

Good to know

  • Book scuba, ferries and the Cellular Jail show in advance.
  • Carry cash — ATMs are limited on Havelock and Neil.
  • Indian nationals need no permit for the main islands.

Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
