The Tegalalang Rice Terrace is Bali at its most photogenic — tiers of luminous green paddy cascading down a valley just north of Ubud, shaped over centuries by the island's ingenious subak irrigation. Wander the paths, sip coconut at a valley-edge café, or float above it all on a jungle swing. Around it, Ubud unfolds with temples, the Sacred Monkey Forest, art villages and calm rice-field walks. Holiday Vibez pairs Tegalalang with the best of Ubud so your trip is scenic, cultural and beautifully paced.

Why Tegalalang is unmissable

Tegalalang shows off the subak irrigation system Bali is famous for — a UNESCO-recognised way of terracing that turns a jungle valley into a living green staircase. Early morning light and soft afternoon shade are the best times to walk and photograph the paddies before the crowds build.

Where to stay around Ubud

Ubud is the natural base for this trip. Choose a jungle or rice-field villa for privacy and views, or a boutique stay near the town centre to be close to cafés, galleries and the market. We match your villa to your budget and travel style.

How to reach Tegalalang

Fly into Denpasar (DPS) — usually a 7–9 hour trip with one stop via a South-East Asian hub. Tegalalang sits about an hour and a half north of the airport, just beyond Ubud, and we arrange private transfers throughout.

Best time & weather

The terraces are green year-round but glow brightest in the April to October dry season. The wetter months from November to March make the paddies even lusher, with short downpours that usually pass quickly and leave the valley fresh.

Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
