Tanah Lot is beautiful by day but transcendent at dusk. As the sun drops behind the ocean, the temple becomes a dark silhouette against a fiery sky, with surf breaking around its base. Arrive an hour or so before sunset to walk the paths and claim a good viewing spot before the light show begins.
Tanah Lot is an active place of worship, so dress respectfully. At low tide you can walk close to the base of the rock, while the inner shrine is reserved for worshippers. Your guide will share the timings and customs so your visit is smooth and considerate.
Fly into Denpasar (DPS), usually a 7–9 hour trip with one stop via a South-East Asian hub. Tanah Lot lies about an hour north-west of the airport in Tabanan, and we arrange comfortable private transfers timed for the sunset.
