The hill country is the green, cool heart of Sri Lanka, where emerald tea plantations blanket the slopes and the air carries a fresh mountain chill. Here you will find Nuwara Eliya, nicknamed 'Little England' for its colonial villas and gardens, and Ella, a laid-back town surrounded by waterfalls and viewpoints. Between them runs one of the world's most scenic train rides. Holiday Vibez builds the tea country into your tour with estate visits, gentle walks and stays among the plantations.

Why visit the hill country

The hill country offers a completely different side of Sri Lanka, cool and green after the warm coasts. Endless tea gardens, misty mornings, waterfalls and charming towns make it a favourite for walkers, photographers and anyone seeking a gentle change of pace.

Tea estates & tasting

Ceylon tea is world famous, and a visit to a working estate lets you follow the leaf from bush to cup. We arrange factory tours and tastings where you can learn how the tea is picked, dried and graded, then sample it fresh with a hillside view.

The scenic train

No hill-country visit is complete without the celebrated train ride between Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella. Rolling slowly past tea gardens, tunnels and viaducts, it is one of the world's great rail journeys, and we can arrange your seats as part of the tour.

Best time to visit

The hills are pleasant much of the year but are at their clearest and driest from around December to March. Bring a warm layer whatever the season, as evenings in Nuwara Eliya can be genuinely cool.

Visa (ETA)

Indian passport holders need a Sri Lanka ETA, applied for online before travel. Holiday Vibez assists with the application so your hill-country escape runs smoothly.
