Srivilliputhur Andal Temple is a Vishnu shrine in the Virudhunagar district town of Srivilliputhur, counted among the 108 Divya Desams sung by the Alvar saints. It has two sanctums: one for Vatapatrasayi, Vishnu reclining on a banyan leaf, and one for Andal with Rangamannar, the form of Vishnu she is traditionally said to have married. Srivilliputhur is revered as the birthplace of Andal, the only woman among the twelve Alvars and the author of the Tiruppavai, and of her father Periyalvar, which is why Vaishnava families across South India treat this town as a pilgrimage in its own right. The temple grew under Chola, Pandya and Vijayanagara patronage, and its towering rajagopuram — among the tallest temple towers in Tamil Nadu — is visible from far outside the town and is the landmark most visitors remember. By long-standing custom a garland worn by Andal here is sent to Tirupati during the month of Purattasi.
October to March is the comfortable window, when the plains around Srivilliputhur are dry and mild rather than hot. Margazhi (mid-December to mid-January) is the devotional high point, with the Tiruppavai recited daily and large kolams through the town — atmospheric, but busy. Aadi Pooram in July–August, marking Andal's birth, is the biggest festival of the year and draws very heavy crowds for several days; elders who dislike crush conditions are better off on an ordinary weekday.
The nearest airport is Madurai (roughly 75 km), about two hours by taxi. Srivilliputhur has its own railway station a couple of kilometres from the temple, with connections to Madurai, Tirunelveli, Chennai and other centres; Madurai Junction (about 80 km) is the larger railhead if you need more train options. By road, the temple sits in the middle of town near the bus stand, with regular state and private buses from Madurai, Rajapalayam (about 15 km), Sivakasi and Virudhunagar.
Modest, traditional dress is expected — shorts, sleeveless tops and short skirts are not permitted inside. The shrine is at ground level in the town centre with no climb, so it suits elderly pilgrims well. Darshan hours, festival processions and any special arrangements should be confirmed with the temple directly before you travel, as they change.

Is the temple manageable for elderly pilgrims?
Generally yes — it is in the town centre on flat ground with no hill climb or long flight of steps. The main difficulty is festival-day crowding rather than terrain.
