Gaurisagar is a group of three Ahom-period temples standing together on the north bank of the large Gaurisagar tank, about 12 km from Sivasagar town in upper Assam. They were built by Queen Phuleswari Devi, chief consort of the Ahom king Siva Singha (reigned 1714-44), and are dedicated separately to Devi, to Shiva and to Vishnu — the Devidol, the Shivadol and the Vishnudol. The Devidol is the largest of the three, a brick-and-stone shrine on an octagonal plinth with a tall nagara sikhara, four smaller subsidiary sikharas and carved figures of Hindu deities on its outer walls; the Vishnudol follows the pattern of the Joydol at nearby Joysagar. Pilgrims come for the three darshans in one visit, and because the site, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, is one of the clearest surviving pictures of how the Ahom queens built their temple-and-tank complexes.
October to March is the comfortable window — upper Assam is dry and cool then, and migratory birds settle on the Gaurisagar tank through the colder months. Shivaratri (February or March) and the Durga Puja days draw the biggest local crowds to the Shivadol and Devidol, so plan a morning visit on those dates; the rest of the year the site is quiet. Avoid June to September, when the monsoon is heavy across the Brahmaputra valley.
Gaurisagar sits on the Assam Trunk Road (NH-37 corridor) roughly 12 km from Sivasagar town, so any Sivasagar-Jorhat bus or shared taxi passes it, and Gaurisagar has its own bus stop. The nearest railhead is Simaluguri Junction, about 16 km from Sivasagar on the Lumding-Dibrugarh line, with buses and taxis onward; Sibsagar Town station is also served. For flights, Jorhat airport is about 75 km from Sivasagar and Dibrugarh airport about 95 km, both an easy road transfer.
This is a living temple group inside an ASI-protected monument, so dress modestly, remove footwear before entering the shrines, and expect the usual rules on climbing or touching the carved walls. There is no long climb — the temples are at ground level beside the tank, and the walk from the road is short and flat, which suits elders. Temple opening hours and puja timings are set locally and are best confirmed with the temple before you travel.

Is it suitable for elderly parents?
Yes. The temples are on flat ground beside the tank with no steps of any consequence and no trek. Visit in the cooler morning hours, carry water, and confirm puja timings with the temple in advance so the trip is not wasted.
