The Northeast is one of India's great adventure frontiers — trek to living root bridges, explore vast caves, kayak crystal rivers and climb toward Himalayan passes. Rainforest, grassland and mountain all lie within one trip. Most adventurers from South India fly into Guwahati (GAU), with flights added honestly to the land cost. Land at Guwahati and head to the Cherrapunji region, gateway to the root-bridge treks. Brief and gear check on arrival.
Descend the long stone stairway to the double-decker living root bridge and natural pools, then trek back up. A rewarding, strenuous day.
Explore limestone caves near Cherrapunji, then transfer to Dawki for kayaking on the crystal Umngot river.

October to April is ideal — drier trails, safer river conditions and running safaris (Kaziranga roughly Nov–Apr). The monsoon supercharges the waterfalls but makes treks and caves slippery and risky, so we avoid the wettest weeks.
