Neil Island, now Shaheed Dweep, is the Andamans at their most laid-back, a small, green island prized for its unhurried pace. Its trio of beaches, Bharatpur, Laxmanpur and Sitapur, offer coral gardens, sunset views and morning sun, while the natural rock arch at low tide is a photographer's favourite. A short ferry from Port Blair or Havelock, Neil suits travellers who want calm over crowds. Indian nationals need no permit to visit.

Why choose Neil Island

Neil is smaller and quieter than Havelock, ideal if you want to slow right down. Coral-fringed beaches, gentle snorkelling and easy cycling make it a restful counterpoint to a busy itinerary.

Neil's three beaches

Bharatpur is best for water activities, Laxmanpur for sunsets and the Natural Bridge, and Sitapur for sunrise. Each is a short ride apart, so you can see all three in a relaxed day or two.

How to reach & ferries

Neil is reached by ferry from Port Blair or Havelock, typically 1 to 2 hours depending on the service. We pre-book your inter-island ferries so island-hopping stays smooth in peak season.

Permits for Indian travellers

Indian nationals need no permit for Neil (Shaheed Dweep). There is no paperwork to arrange, while foreign nationals simply register on arrival.

Best time to visit

October to May offers calm seas and clear water, ideal for snorkelling and boat trips. The June to September monsoon can bring rough seas and occasional ferry cancellations.

Good to know

Neil is small with limited ATMs, so carry cash. Mobile signal is patchy, and the Natural Bridge is best visited at low tide, so plan around the tide timings.
