You board a comfortable cruiser in the late afternoon and head for the deeper channels where dolphins feed. Sightings are common but wild and never assured, so it is best enjoyed as a relaxed evening on the water rather than a tick-box activity. Most trips last around 90 minutes to two hours.
Fly to Malé (MLE) — there are direct flights from several Indian metros, roughly 1.5–3 hours from Kochi, Bangalore and Chennai and 3–4.5 hours from Delhi and Mumbai. From Malé you reach your island by speedboat (nearby resorts) or seaplane/domestic flight (far atolls). The dolphin cruise itself departs from your island jetty.
November to April is the dry season with the calmest seas and clearest skies — ideal for a smooth cruise, and December to March is peak. May to October is wetter with short showers but often better value; sightings continue year-round as the dolphins are resident.
The Maldives is visa-free for Indian travellers — a free 30-day visa is issued on arrival, so no advance paperwork is needed. Just carry a valid passport, return ticket and confirmed accommodation.
