Kokernag sits in the Anantnag area of south Kashmir and is best known for its gushing freshwater springs and formal garden. It is a calm, green destination that suits travellers wanting a slower, less crowded corner of the valley. Most visitors combine it with Srinagar and the nearby Mughal gardens for a well-rounded three-to-five-day trip.

Kokernag is reached by road from Srinagar, a comfortable drive south through orchard country. Fly to Srinagar (SXR) — direct flights operate from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, with one-stop links via Delhi from other cities — then continue by car or taxi. As domestic travel, no visa or permit is required for Indian travellers.
Kokernag is loveliest from spring through autumn (March–October), when the gardens bloom and the chinars turn golden in late October. Summers are pleasantly cool and green; winters are cold and quiet. Carry a light layer even in summer, as evenings can be crisp.
