Kannur is North Kerala at its most genuine — a coastal district where fishing harbours, forts and weaving villages sit beside long, uncrowded beaches. It is best known for Theyyam, a mesmerising ritual art unique to the Malabar region, and for a slower, more local rhythm than Kerala's southern hotspots.
The coastline is Kannur's calling card. Payyambalam is the showpiece, Meenkunnu is quiet and clean, and Muzhappilangad lets you drive along the sand itself. Sunsets over the Arabian Sea here are among Kerala's finest.
