Kashmir is beautiful all year, so the best time to visit really depends on the scenes you are chasing. Broadly, March to October is the classic window — tulips in early April, lush green meadows through summer and golden chinar leaves by late October. If snow and skiing are your dream, December to February turns Gulmarg into a white wonderland. Because Kashmir is domestic travel, Indian guests need no visa or permit; you simply pick your season and fly into Srinagar. Here is how each part of the year feels on the ground.

Spring wakes the valley. In early April the tulips bloom above Dal Lake, orchards blossom and the gardens turn green. Days are mild and the meadows begin to open up — a wonderful time for gardens, photography and gentle sightseeing.
Summer is the most popular season, with warm, comfortable days and the meadows of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg at their greenest. It is ideal for the gondola, easy walks and trekking such as the Kashmir Great Lakes and Tarsar Marsar routes.
Autumn is quietly spectacular. As the chinar leaves turn amber and gold, the valley glows and crowds thin. Crisp air and soft light make late October and early November a dream for photographers.
Winter transforms Kashmir into a snowy paradise. Gulmarg becomes a skiing hub with its high gondola, and Srinagar's Dal Lake takes on a serene, misty beauty. Some high-altitude roads may close, so plans focus on the accessible, well-travelled circuits.
