Mirissa combines a beautiful beach with one of Asia's best whale-watching seasons, all in a relaxed, unhurried setting. It is the kind of place where you can spot a blue whale at dawn and watch the sunset from a palm-topped hill the same evening.
Between roughly November and April, boats leave Mirissa harbour early in search of blue whales, sperm whales and dolphins. We arrange trips with responsible operators, and while sightings are common in season, they can never be assured with wild animals.
The south coast is at its finest from about December to March, with sunny skies, calmer seas and the whale-watching season in full swing. This is the ideal window to enjoy both the beach and the boat trips.
Mirissa lies on the south coast, reached by a scenic drive or the coastal expressway from Colombo. Most guests travel by private car and driver, which makes it easy to stop at Galle Fort along the way.
