Speedboats serve resorts close to Malé and run at almost any hour, making them ideal for late-night arrivals. Seaplanes reach far atolls and only operate in daylight, so your flight timing matters. Distance from the airport is the single biggest factor in which transfer you'll use.
Because seaplanes don't fly after dark, an evening arrival into Malé may mean an overnight near the airport before a morning transfer. Speedboat resorts avoid this, so if you land late and want to reach your island the same day, a nearby speedboat resort is worth considering.
Transfers are priced separately from your room and vary widely by distance and type. Seaplanes typically cost more than speedboats, and domestic-flight combinations sit in between. We quote the transfer clearly as part of your package so there are no surprises on arrival.
