Suggested itinerary
Land at Kochi and drive up to Munnar, settling into the tea hills for a cool first evening. A short Fort Kochi visit can be added before departing.
A full day among the estates — Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Eravikulam National Park and the Tea Museum, with garden walks and viewpoints.
Drive to Thekkady, tour a spice plantation and enjoy an evening Kathakali or Kalaripayattu performance.
Take a morning Periyar lake safari, then travel to Alleppey to board your private houseboat and cruise the backwaters overnight.
Disembark after breakfast and head south to Kovalam for beach time and a lighthouse sunset, or extend the trip with more coast.

How to structure a Kerala trip
The most natural Kerala itinerary flows from north to south, or from hills to coast. Begin in the cool of Munnar, move to the spice country and wildlife of Thekkady, drift the Alleppey backwaters overnight, then finish by the sea. Because destinations are close together, you avoid long transfers and keep each day varied and scenic.
Short itinerary — 3 to 4 days
Limited on time? A three or four-day plan focuses on the essentials: two nights in Munnar for the tea hills and one on an Alleppey houseboat. It is the perfect long-weekend taste of Kerala and can be extended with a Kochi visit on arrival or departure.
Classic itinerary — 5 to 6 days
Five to six days is the sweet spot. It adds Thekkady's spice country and wildlife to the hills-and-backwaters core, and often a beach day at Kovalam. This balanced route covers Kerala's signature landscapes at a relaxed pace and suits most travellers beautifully.
Full itinerary — 7 days
With a week you can include Fort Kochi's heritage at the start and unhurried beach days at the end, alongside Munnar, Thekkady and the backwaters. This is Kerala at its most complete, with room to add Ayurveda, Kumarakom or Wayanad if you wish.
Tips for planning
A few pointers make any Kerala itinerary run smoothly:
- Travel north to south to avoid backtracking
- Keep the houseboat for one memorable night, not several
- Pack layers for hills, cottons for the coast and a rain layer
- September to March suits sightseeing; the monsoon suits Ayurveda

Real stories from real journeys
Thousands of families and couples across South India have travelled with us — here's what a few of them had to say.
Travelling with my parents and two kids, I was nervous. Holiday Vibez planned every single day perfectly, and the Alleppey houseboat was the highlight. We are already planning our next trip with them.
Best price I found anywhere, and the desert safari and Burj Khalifa tickets were all sorted before we even landed. The team was on WhatsApp whenever I had a question.
The Gulmarg gondola, the shikara ride on Dal Lake — exactly like the photos, no surprises at all. By the end of the trip our driver felt like family.
Booked a fairly last-minute Phuket trip and they still got me a great deal with visa help included. Honest, smooth and genuinely helpful people.
Scuba at Havelock was a dream come true. Every transfer and every hotel was exactly as promised. Worth every rupee, and I have already recommended them to friends.
