As the afternoon cools, a 4x4 takes you over the golden dunes for some heart-in-mouth dune bashing, then it's time for a camel ride, sandboarding and photos as the sun drops behind the sand. The evening ends at a Bedouin-style desert camp with a barbecue dinner, henna, shisha and live tanoura and belly-dance performances under the stars. A typical evening safari includes hotel pick-up and drop in an air-conditioned 4x4, dune bashing, a camel ride, sandboarding, a stop for sunset photos, and a desert camp with a barbecue buffet dinner (veg and non-veg), soft drinks, henna painting, shisha and live shows. The evening safari with dinner is the classic and suits most families and couples. For something calmer, a morning safari skips the show and focuses on the dunes. For a splurge, a private/luxury safari with a premium camp or a hot-air-balloon ride at dawn is unforgettable. Travelling with elderly parents or very young kids? We'll pick the gentler option and a shorter dune route.
Wear light clothes and closed shoes, carry a light jacket for the evening (the desert cools fast), and skip a heavy lunch before dune bashing. Vegetarian and Jain meals are available at the camp — just let us know in advance.
