Direct flights land at Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad in around two to five hours. Islands are linked by ferry, including comfortable private cruises, all of which we pre-book so families are not left queuing.
October to May gives dry days, calm seas and clear water for snorkelling, with the December to January peak busiest. The June to September monsoon can bring rough seas and occasional ferry cancellations, so we plan around settled weather.
Indian families do not need a permit for Port Blair, Havelock or Neil, so there is no paperwork before you travel. Mobile signal can be patchy on outer islands and ATMs are limited, so we advise carrying some cash for the trip.
